{"id":4571,"date":"2025-05-30T10:09:00","date_gmt":"2025-05-30T09:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/synemic.net\/?post_type=news&#038;p=4571"},"modified":"2025-05-16T22:10:42","modified_gmt":"2025-05-16T21:10:42","slug":"4567","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/synemic.net\/en\/news\/4567\/","title":{"rendered":"Boeing will avoid court provided additional payments are made to families of those killed in 737 MAX crashes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Boeing has reached a preliminary non-prosecution agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice in a fraud case related to two deadly 737 MAX crashes that claimed many lives, sources familiar with the matter said.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The agreement would prevent a trial scheduled for June against the aircraft manufacturer, accused of misleading U.S. regulators about a key flight control system on the 737 MAX plane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The deal would allow Boeing to avoid pleading guilty to a crime, which would be a blow to the families of the victims who sought to hold the company accountable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A guilty plea could have also complicated Boeing\u2019s ability to secure important government contracts, including with the U.S. Department of Defense and NASA, though the company could seek waivers from such obligations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Boeing did not provide comments, and the Department of Justice declined to comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously, Boeing agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy to commit fraud after two fatal crashes in 2018 and 2019 and to pay a substantial fine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, Boeing later withdrew the guilty plea, prosecutors told families of the victims during a meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company\u2019s position changed after a judge rejected the preliminary guilty plea agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The U.S. Department of Justice is still considering whether to proceed with the non-prosecution agreement or take Boeing to court.
